Designed to Shelter.

The HOME Department is CORE’s answer to the crisis of homelessness, built on the principle that housing is not a privilege—it is a fundamental right.

As someone who understands the struggle of being raised in a homeless family, this department holds deep personal significance, ensuring that no one has to endure the instability and indignity of not having a place to call home.

HOME is dedicated to providing ethically responsible housing solutions that restore dignity, security, and stability to those in need. Its flagship initiative, Lillie’s Homes, consists of properties owned and managed by CORE, made possible through donations and sustainable partnerships. These homes are specifically designed for both families and individuals, offering them not just a roof over their heads, but a pathway toward long-term independence.

More than just shelter, the HOME Department is committed to breaking the cycle of homelessness through education, career development, and financial literacy programs. It works in close collaboration with the READ Department to provide access to job opportunities and skill-building initiatives, while also partnering with the PLEAD Department to connect individuals with employment opportunities, including within CORE itself.

Recognizing the complex challenges of homelessness, HOME also collaborates with the HEAL Department to provide support for mental health services, addiction recovery, and medical care. Financial education programs within HOME focus on budgeting, credit-building, and long-term planning, ensuring that those transitioning out of homelessness have the tools to stay on their feet.

Additionally, HOME leads homeless shelter audits to ensure ethical treatment and safe conditions in temporary housing facilities. It also oversees security measures for CORE properties, creating safe environments where individuals and families can rebuild their lives.

Because a home is more than four walls—it is the foundation of a future.

This is what it means to be Designed to Shelter.

you may trod me in the very dirt, But still like dust…

I’LL RISE.”- Maya Angelou
